Nuxt is a framework built on Vue.js that adds server-side rendering, static site generation, file-based routing and server API routes. Pages arrive as ready-made HTML, so they load fast and search engines can read them. Nuxt is to Vue roughly what Next.js is to React.
If your site depends on organic search, or you want one Vue codebase for both the public site and the logged-in app, Nuxt is the natural choice. If you only need an internal tool behind a login, plain Vue is usually simpler.
What a Nuxt developer does
- Build server-rendered and statically generated sites with Nuxt 4
- Set up SEO basics: meta tags, sitemaps, structured data and clean URLs
- Write server API routes and connect to databases or a headless CMS
- Configure deployment to Node servers, serverless platforms or edge hosting
- Upgrade Nuxt 2 and Nuxt 3 projects to Nuxt 4
- Improve Core Web Vitals and page speed
What businesses build with it
- Marketing sites and landing pages that need to rank
- Content sites and blogs backed by a headless CMS
- E-commerce storefronts
- SaaS products with a public site and an app under one codebase
- Multi-language websites
Why teams choose it
- Server rendering gives good SEO and fast first page loads
- Sensible defaults and file-based conventions cut setup time
- Built-in server routes mean a small back end can live in the same project
- Trade-off: more moving parts than plain Vue, and it needs a Node-capable host unless you generate a fully static site

Common questions
Do I need Nuxt or is plain Vue enough?
If the pages must be found on Google or load fast for first-time visitors, use Nuxt. If the whole app sits behind a login, such as an admin panel, plain Vue is simpler and cheaper to host.
Our site is on Nuxt 2 or Nuxt 3. Should we upgrade?
Yes. Nuxt 2 reached end of life in June 2024, and the Nuxt team set 31 July 2026 as Nuxt 3's end-of-life date. We audit your modules first, then upgrade in stages so the live site stays stable.
